STC Family Dominate!
🎾 Swanage Carnival Tennis Round-Up 🎾
During the latter part of July, we were all treated to the best event of the year—Swanage Carnival! It’s a fantastic week filled with fun, with something for everyone to enjoy.
Our very own Anne Tomes organised the Junior and Adult tennis competitions for an incredible 42nd year! This is a truly remarkable achievement and a wonderful example of her dedication to the Swanage community.
The competitions are all about having fun and getting involved, which is why both local players and visitors return to take part year after year.
Tuesday saw the first competition, with around 16 players of all ages taking to the courts. For some, it was their first-ever competition, while others had returned for another year of Carnival tennis.
Several members of the STC family took part, including seven-year-old Violet, who competed in her first tournament. She showed fantastic resilience and determination, giving a brilliant account of herself and finishing fourth in her category—well done, Violet!
Our older juniors then competed in the doubles event. Daisy and Micah were paired together and formed a successful partnership, reaching the final before being narrowly beaten by a talented winning pair. A fantastic achievement!
Wednesday brought a brilliant turnout for the Adult competition, which remains a firm favourite with holidaymakers who return year after year. With a huge 40-player entry, there was plenty of competitive tennis and fun to be enjoyed.
Once again, the STC family was well represented. Harry Spurling and Charlie Spurling were each paired with visiting players and both reached the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, our very own chairman, Phil, was paired with Becky Gate. They proved to be an unstoppable partnership, overcoming the visiting finalists to claim the title! 🏆
